What We Do

WHAT WE DO

We provide positive activities for young people and young adults, aged 9-25, with social communication difficulties such as autism and ADHD, through a planned series of outdoor activity breaks tailored to their individual needs.

Breaks may be: short 1:1 sessions locally with one of our Project Workers; small group evening activities; half day activities during the Easter holidays; full day activities during the summer holidays; an activity day or an overnight stay as part of one of our weekend camps; a full weekend camp or a 5 day camp.

We also run activities just for over 18’s: monthly evening activities, the occasional full day activity, a Friday morning group and a fortnightly mountain biking group. Plus one or 2 residential camps/year for the over 18’s.

On activities the young people and adults are accompanied and supported by our staff and team of carefully selected and trained volunteers.

Many activities we run ourselves, such as biking (learn to ride, foundation trail biking and mountain biking), canoeing, kayaking, archery, team challenges, bushcraft, walking, indoor and outdoor climbing, and new for 2026 we will be starting to run some paddleboarding sessions. We also sometimes use other activity providers to run those activities that we are not yet able to run ourselves, such as coasteering, gorge walking, sailing, skiing and snowboarding.

We also deliver the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme for some of our young people/adults.

Are you looking for opportunities for your son or daughter to try new activities, develop their social interaction skills, make new friends and have fun?

If the answer is yes, then we may be able to help:If your young person is receiving self-directed support, then this can be used to access our services: for more information contact us on info@reach4reality.org.uk or download our Welcome Pack.

Here’s a sample of an average weekend programme at Abernethy Nethybridge.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS?

By taking part in the Reach4Reality activities a the young person will gain self-respect and confidence; they will learn to relate better with others and develop personal life skills.  They will discover that “can’t” will become “can” as they develop trust and rise to face the challenges they experience on camp.

But above all they will have fun and make new friends!

WHAT IS A WEEKEND CAMP LIKE?

Every Reach4Reality camp is different as we use different locations and the activities are tailored to the young people/adults on each camp. However, each weekend follows the same basic structure with plenty of opportunities between organised activities for more informal socialising such as playing Uno, Doble or other games in the lounge, chatting, or air hockey, table tennis when at Abernethy.

WHERE DO WE GO?

Weekend camps tend to be either at Abernethy Nethybridge, Cairngorms Christian Centre in Kincraig, Badaguish, Alltnacriche near Aviemore and occasionally Cullen Residential Centre.

For our 5 day camps we have been to Glencoe Outdoor Centre, Abernethy Kilmalieu, Abernethy Nethybridge, Abernethy Barcaple and Badaguish. We have also run an over 18’s 5 day camp on Orkney and on a narrowboat on the Union Canal!
